Chase Sapphire Preferred cardmembers receive a reimbursement statement credit when they apply for or renew their TSA PreCheck membership. Here are some things to know about how this statement credit works, when you can use it and the process for applying for TSA PreCheck.
TSA PreCheck statement credit details
The TSA PreCheck reimbursement statement credit is available to Sapphire Preferred cardmembers who use their card to pay for the TSA PreCheck application fee. Travelers must complete an application and pay a fee as part of the approval process. Note that the Sapphire Preferred card has an annual fee.
How does the TSA PreCheck credit work?
When you pay the TSA PreCheck application fee with your Sapphire Preferred card, you are eligible for the statement credit. There’s no need to sign up or fill out extra forms; just use your card to pay the application fee. The statement credit usually posts to your account within 1 to 2 billing cycles.
Can the credit be applied to other TTPs?
The statement credit can be used to cover application fees associated with Global Entry or NEXUS as well. Note that cardmembers will only receive reimbursement for one TTP application fee.
Global Entry is designed to expedite security screening when entering customs in the U.S., and NEXUS can help to expedite security screening when crossing the U.S. and Canada border. Global Entry status also includes TSA PreCheck benefits.
Application for any program does not guarantee approval. If approved, most program memberships are for five years, after which you will need to renew your membership to continue receiving benefits.
How often can you use the TSA PreCheck credit?
The Sapphire Preferred TSA PreCheck credit is available once every four years. It can be applied to a new application or a renewal. The credit can apply to TSA PreCheck, Global Entry or NEXUS, but only one program within a four-year span.
How to apply for TSA PreCheck
To receive TSA PreCheck benefits, applicants must complete the following steps:
- Fill out the online application: Visit the official TSA PreCheck website and fill out the online form.
- Schedule an appointment: Once your application is submitted, set up an in-person appointment at an enrollment center.
- Attend your appointment: Bring the necessary identification and pay the application fee with your Sapphire Preferred card to be eligible for the credit.
- Background check and fingerprints: During your appointment, you’ll complete a background check and provide fingerprints.
- Await approval: Most applicants receive their Known Traveler Number (KTN) in 3 to 5 business days, though some applications can take up to 60 days. You can add the number to your airline reservations for access to TSA PreCheck security lanes.
Some TSA enrollment centers allow for same day appointments, but priority is generally given to applicants with a scheduled appointment.
