      Quick insights

      • Paze is an online checkout solution available at some online merchants.
      • When using Paze, your account information is never shared with merchants.
      • Paze replaces your account details with a token that uses random letters and numbers for each transaction.

Paze is an online checkout solution that allows users to access eligible credit and debit cards when paying at online merchants and e-commerce sites. It’s not a digital payment app that you add information into or need to sign up for. Rather, it’s a payment solution that syncs to your existing accounts.

Paze works differently than many other digital payment options due in large part to how it was created. It was created by a consortium of seven of the largest financial institutions in the U.S. (Chase, Bank of America, Capital One, PNC, Truist, U.S. Bank and Wells Fargo).

Paze does not require you to create a new account or enter your credit card numbers into its system. Rather, it recognizes and syncs your account information to the email address and phone number associated with your existing bank and credit card accounts.

Paze also may provide an additional level of security when making transactions online. Read on to learn about its security features as well as how to access and use Paze.

      Paze security and account safety

Paze has some notable security features designed to help keep your account information private when making online payments.

It doesn’t share your actual card numbers with online merchants. Even though Paze has your account info, it replaces sensitive card data with a token for every transaction. Using this token—which creates a unique set of random letters and numbers for the transaction—means that online merchants will not be privy to your actual account numbers.

And if your card is lost or stolen, there’s no need to update your payment information in Paze when you get your replacement card. Because your credit card automatically links to Paze, the platform updates the information automatically when you go to pay. There’s no need to manage your card information on online merchant sites.

      Using Paze

The first time you use Paze, you’ll need to verify your accounts in the platform. This is typically done by sending a security or verification code to the phone number or email address associated with your bank or credit card accounts. Once you’ve entered the code, the accounts you have associated with the phone number or email address will be displayed as payment options.

How you verify your account can vary by financial institution, so check with your account holders to determine what steps you may need to take to verify your accounts.

Your eligible credit or debit card will be automatically linked to Paze through all of the participating bank cards you have. For example, you can have a Chase credit card and a debit card with a different participating financial institution, and they will both be in Paze if they are tied to same email address.

Note that you can't use Paze for every online transaction. It won't be an option at checkout if you don't have an eligible bank account or if the merchant doesn't have it as an option.

      Merchants who accept Paze

You can use Paze at any participating online merchant. You can view a list of merchants that offer PazeOpens overlay for the most up-to-date merchant info.

If Paze is a payment option at checkout, you’ll likely see it as a button on a check out page, much like you’d see options for Apple Pay, Google Pay or Venmo. Because Paze is still a relatively new online checkout option, you may not see it as an option. However, Paze continues to add new merchants to its system.

      In summary

Paze is a payment option offered at some online merchants. When using Paze, your actual account numbers are not shared with a merchant. Instead, they are replaced with a series of random letters and numbers for every transaction. Paze is available at select merchants and available to users who have accounts at financial institutions associated with Paze.
