A Guide to Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI)

Quick insights
- Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) is one of the three major airports that serves the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
- It’s located in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, about nine miles south of downtown Baltimore and 30 miles northeast of Washington, D.C.
- Priority Pass™ members can use one lounge entitlement to access one participating airport lounge at BWI.
While BWI is situated just outside of downtown Baltimore, it also serves the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and South Central Pennsylvania. It was named after Thurgood Marshall, a Baltimore native and the first African American to serve as a U.S. Supreme Court justice.

When to arrive at BWI
Airport officials typically recommend arriving at the airport two hours prior to your departure time for domestic flights, and three hours prior for international flights. Be sure to account for factors like parking, traffic and holidays as well.

BWI terminal information
BWI has one main terminal building with five concourses (A, B, C, D and E). It’s built in a U-shape with the hourly parking garage at the center. Airport roads and ground transportation services are located along the parking garage.
The upper level of the main terminal building includes ticketing services, various restaurants, an observation deck and four different security checkpoints. Arrivals for all concourses are on the lower level.
Because BWI is a single terminal, passengers will need to walk between concourses for connecting flights using walkways. Take note that Concourses A, B and C are not linked airside to Concourses D and E, which means you’d need to re-clear security to travel between them.
Priority Pass lounges at BWI
Priority Pass members will be able to access one participating airport lounge in exchange for one lounge visit entitlement: The Club BWI.
The Club BWI is on the upper level Concourse D, near gate D10. It’s also accessible to travelers in Concourse E (passengers in all other concourses would need to re-clear security). Airport guests who don’t have Priority Pass memberships may purchase a day pass for The Club BWI (if available).
Some of the lounge amenities include:
- Complimentary snacks and beverages
- Workstations
- Complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi
- Digital newspapers and magazines
- TV channels and flight information
Lounge access is permitted 3 hours prior to departure, and children under 2 are admitted for free.
Things to do at BWI
Have a layover at BWI? Here are a few things you can do to pass the time within the airport grounds:

Guests can also consider visiting Sky Azure, a trendy bistro within the Observation Gallery.
