The Siam is among Bangkok’s most emblematic hotels, but thanks to its boutique size (there are just 38 rooms) and offbeat location in the quiet Dusit district, checking in here still feels like you’ve been let in on a secret. The 360 guest rooms are sleek but cozy, but with six restaurants and bars, including an upscale Italian restaurant and a modern French-Asian spot, the hotel is as much a place to eat as it is to sleep—just ask the well-heeled locals who flock here in droves.

It’s hard to pin down the design of Sindhorn Kempinski, located in the green heart of Pathum Wan’s Sindhorn Village. The cavernous and concrete-clad lobby melds brutalist beauty with refined Thai touches such as fresh orchids and ferns, while the cantilevered swimming pool protrudes from the building’s side like a shiny UFO. The apartment-style suites are chic and ultra spacious, but the hotel’s real drawcard is its wellness center, where you can pop in for a quick Thai massage after sightseeing, or sign up for multiday retreats that could include Ayurvedic aromatherapy, mud-based treatments and consultations with fitness experts.
The Peninsula Bangkok

The Pen’s perch, in a space age–looking tower on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River, means your room looks out over downtown Bangkok’s skyscraper-studded cityscape (unlike most riverfront hotels, which look away from it). With lots of teak, silks and fresh orchids, the vibe here is classic Thai, but a roster of complimentary activities—from sourdough workshops to aqua yoga—and a Cantonese restaurant serving experimental dim sum dinners show that this decades-old Bangkok institution is well abreast of today’s trends.
Chakrabongse Villas
Phra Nakhon, Riverside
If you want to go all in on Bangkok’s historic quarter, you can’t do much better than a stay at Chakrabongse Villas, where the signature suites occupy a 20th-century Thai house set in a bougainvillea-filled garden. The riverside estate, packed with countless local antiques, was originally built as a hideaway by a Thai prince and is now run by his Ukrainian-Thai granddaughter. Do note that the Thai restaurant serves only a set menu (albeit a great one that changes daily), and the decor in the rooms is, yes, a little old-school, but it just makes the property all the more endearing.

While you laze poolside between the lotus ponds and frangipani trees that dot The Sukhothai Bangkok’s impossibly green grounds, it’s easy to forget that you’re still smack in the middle of the capital’s boisterous CBD. The hotel’s central location makes it a perfect base for sightseeing, but you’ll hardly want to leave: The recently renovated spa offers an almost overwhelming variety of facials, oil massages and IV cocktails, and the Thai tasting menus at Celadon restaurant are among the city’s best (though if you’re ordering à la carte, don’t miss the mango sticky rice for dessert). The oversize rooms, smartly done up in chrome, teak and Jim Thompson silks, only serve to enhance the hotel’s “stay put” appeal.

The COMO Metropolitan Bangkok feels like a breath of fresh air in the cacophonic Sathon district. It doesn’t hit you over the head with Buddhist art and other Thai frills, but instead draws you in with the insidery vibe of a private members club.
