Read on to learn more about this credit card benefit and how to use it.
What to know about the Sapphire Preferred hotel credit
This $50 credit is an annual statement credit available to Sapphire Preferred cardmembers. The statement credit will be applied to your account when your card is used for hotel accommodation purchases through Chase Travel (up to an annual maximum of $50).
After booking, the $50 credit should show up on your statement within 1-2 billing cycles. The credit does not apply to the cost of your stay at the time of booking. Note that purchases that qualify for the $50 Annual Chase Travel Hotel Credit will not earn rewards points.
It resets every year on your cardmember anniversary and does not compound. If the cardmember does not use the entire credit within a year, the unused amount is forfeited.
How to earn the hotel credit
Steps to earn this statement credit as a part of your cardmember benefits include:
- Accessing the Chase Travel portal: Log into your Chase account online or via the Chase Mobile® app and navigate to the Chase Ultimate Rewards® portal. Within the portal, navigate to the travel portion.
- Booking a hotel: Once in Chase Travel, use the portal to book a hotel stay. The credit does not apply to other travel expenses or hotel bookings made outside the portal.
- Checking your statement: After you complete your hotel booking, the credit will be automatically applied to your account. A $50 statement credit should appear on your account within 1-2 billing cycles.
You can check whether the credit has already been used by checking your account statements or previous transactions. Statement credits usually appear in your transactions list (sometimes in a different color or with a plus sign) and deduct from your credit card balance.

Chase Travel offers a wide variety of hotel options, ranging from domestic stays to luxurious resorts in exotic destinations. In addition to thousands of hotels available on the portal, users can book cruises, airfare, excursions and more, making Chase Travel a convenient one-stop shop for all your trip planning needs.

Other perks with the Sapphire Preferred card
In addition to the hotel credit, there are other Sapphire Preferred cardmember benefits and perks including:
- 3x points on dining
- 3x points on select streaming services
- 2x points on travel purchases not made through Chase Travel
- Travel and purchase protection coverage
The Sapphire Preferred card also allows cardmembers to earn bonus points equal to 10% of their total purchases made in the previous year on each account anniversary. For example, if you spend $25,000 on purchases, you can earn 2,500 bonus points. Your account anniversary is your account open.
The card does have an annual fee, so you may want to consider if the annual fee and benefits make sense for you.
