These features are included with most of our checking accounts and don't require enrollment
Standard Overdraft Practice
When there is not enough money in your checking account to cover a transaction – such as checks, recurring debit card transactions and automatic payments - we may cover it for a fee at our discretion based on your account history, the deposits you make and the transaction amount.
What it costs:
- $34 Overdraft Fee per transaction, maximum of 3 Overdraft Fees per business day for a total of $102
- For transactions that are $5 or less, no Overdraft Fee

Chase Overdraft Assist℠ is included in our Standard Overdraft Practice
Provides extra time to help you avoid $34 Overdraft Fee.
Here's how it works:
- If at the end of the business day you're overdrawn by $50 or less, no overdraft fee
- If you are overdrawn by more than $50 at the end of the business day, and you make a deposit or transfer so that your account is overdrawn by $50 or less, before 11 pm ET or 8 pm PT the next business day, there’s no Overdraft Fee
Optional overdraft services
You can enroll in these services to help avoid potential Overdraft Fees.
Overdraft Protection
If you have a Chase savings account, you can link it as a backup to your checking account. Then, if you have enough money in your savings account, we’ll transfer the exact amount needed to cover an overdraft transaction. There’s no cost to enroll and there is no fee to transfer money between accounts.
Chase Debit Card Coverage
Choose how you want us to handle your everyday debit card transactions, like groceries, gasoline or dining out, if you don't have enough money in your account.
Here's how it works:
- Choose OFF, the transaction will be declined and you won’t be charged an Overdraft Fee.
- Choose ON, we may pay the overdraft transaction at our discretion and charge you the $34 Overdraft Fee.
Digital tools that help you monitor and manage your spending
Get the Chase Mobile® app
Downloading the Chase Mobile® app lets you check your balance from anywhere to see how much you have to spend.
Set up Account Alerts
Get a text, email or push notification when your balance is getting low or if you’ve already overdrawn.
Track your spending with Spending Planner
Spending Planner is a tool available in the Chase Mobile® app that lets you track and adjust your spending.
You can also switch to Chase Secure BankingSM — a simple checking account with no Overdraft Fees.
