How Naomi Osaka Spends an Off Day in Tokyo

PublishedJul 15, 2025
By Naomi Zeichner

You already know Naomi Osaka, the 27-year-old tennis legend with four Grand Slams under her belt. Arguably even more remarkable than those accomplishments is the fact that, while earning those titles, her passion and curiosity for the world beyond tennis have remained intact. Her love for culture has shown up in her game, like in the Yoon Ahn–designed outfit she wore at the 2024 U.S. Open, and it’s present in how she spends her time off the court. On a recent Off Day in Tokyo, Naomi shared her insider’s guide to the “city of endless discovery” that holds her heart, taking us to the pizza place she considers the world’s best, the shopping districts where she finds vintage treasures and the sanctuary with panoramic views where she recharges for the road ahead.

    Where to Eat

Naomi samples pies at Pizza Studio Tamaki.

“I’m half Japanese, so I may be a bit biased, but for me Tokyo has some of the best food in the world. I’m the type of person to spend hours researching a restaurant here, and I just love to discover new places to eat,” Naomi says. These are a few of the gems she always comes back to; find her full list of Tokyo restaurant recommendations at The Infatuation.

    Çà et Là
    Akasaka

“It’s a small private sushi bar owned and operated by two brothers, and it’s the perfect place for high-quality sushi and an intimate dining experience.”

    Roppongi

“Arguably the best pizza I’ve ever had. It’s normally my meal whenever I’m in Tokyo. My go-tos are the Bismarck and the Diavola.”

    Suetomi
    Shibuya

“It’s the best omakase in Tokyo. Chef Suetomi always has a surprise or two up his sleeve.”

    What to Do

Naomi shops for kitchenware in the Kappabashi shopping area.

With a free day in Tokyo, “I’m definitely shopping,” Naomi says. She recommends these areas for luxury fashion, cookware and vintage finds.

    Kappabashi
    Ueno/Asakusa

“For foodies like me, it’s a kitchen cornucopia—from Japanese knives to crockery.”

    Omotesando
    Shibuya

    “For luxury and big-brand shopping.”

    Cat Street
    Harajuku/Shibuya

Find a selection of rare, vintage handbags at CASANOVA VINTAGE.

“Packed with trendy boutiques and thrift stores, including one of my favorites [for designer vintage], CASANOVA.”

    Where to Stay

The world’s largest city by population, Tokyo has great hotels throughout its constellation of neighborhoods. Naomi’s favorite, atop a skyscraper in Yaesu, elegantly blends Roman references, Japanese history and unmatched service.

“I’m on the road a lot, so where I stay is super important. I love the vibe at Bvlgari Hotel. It’s like my little sanctuary. There’s nothing better than to curl up with some tea and a book and just chill.”
