Stay Here For
Grand Canal views and proximity to the city’s top attractions.
Venice can seem like a city frozen in time, with its Venetian Gothic architecture and gondolas ferrying travelers through the canals, just as they have for centuries.
The St. Regis Venice embraces that history: While the St. Regis name is a relatively new addition to the city’s historic skyline, the hotel itself is a juxtaposition of old and new, a flawless marriage of contemporary comforts with buildings that date back as far as the 1600s.
Set across five Venetian palazzi, The St. Regis Venice opened in 2019 in the former Grand Hotel Britannia. Some may even remember it as The Westin Europa & Regina, although after a two-year renovation, the property’s 124 rooms and 39 suites have been completely transformed into the striking hotel you’ll find today.
From the moment you arrive by boat to the front doors of The St. Regis Venice, your vacation on the Grand Canal begins. It’s the hotel’s front yard, as well as the backdrop for your alfresco breakfasts, social media photos and sunset cocktails at the St. Regis Bar.
The Grand Canal view is such a fixture that the hotel received special permission from Marriott to reposition the St. Regis Bar’s signature mural (always displayed behind the bartenders), to the wall across the room. As a result, guests are treated to a view of the water and rose garden, framed by shelves of ingredients used to craft unique takes on popular cocktails.
One St. Regis tradition that hasn’t changed? The signature Butler Service. You can request coffee and tea delivered to your room in just a few minutes, daily pressing of two items per person and even luggage unpacking (and repacking), all free of charge.
The St. Regis is easily one of the most aspirational hotels in Venice—and its spectacular views and extraordinary service make a stay here truly worthwhile for a special trip.
How to Make the Most of Your Cardmember Benefits
The St. Regis Venice is a member of The Edit by Chase Travel℠, a collection of hand-picked hotels with premium benefits for Chase Sapphire Reserve cardmembers. Cardmembers who book a stay at The St. Regis Venice through The Edit will earn 3 points per dollar and receive special benefits including daily breakfast and a $100 property credit, along with early check-in, late checkout and a room upgrade, when available. Check out how these benefits came to life during our stay at The St. Regis Venice:
The Room
All of the rooms and suites at The St. Regis Venice have a subtle midcentury design, with sorbet colors and furniture with soft, curved edges. You’ll find an incredibly comfortable bed with a pillow-top mattress, crisp Frette linens and a plush duvet, along with a marble bathroom, with either a stand-alone shower or a shower and deep soaking tub. Exposed beams, marble details and wood accents give the room a sense of balance.
Entry-level Deluxe rooms all have alley or building views, and are an ideal pick if you’re planning to spend most of your trip exploring Venice.
Given the hotel’s prime location, you may want to book a Grand Canal View room, with a larger bedroom, an additional seating area and—of course—a view of the ferries and gondolas navigating the Grand Canal. Or splurge on a Terrace Grand Canal View room, which adds outdoor space along the water, or a larger Terrace Grand Canal Suite.
The Features
Consider booking a suite with a balcony, especially if you’re visiting during the warmer months of May to September.
Don’t miss: Breakfast at Gio’s Restaurant—it’s included when you book your stay through The Edit and includes a large selection of French and Italian pastries, cheeses from across Europe (including a melt-in-your-mouth Brie), fresh juices and fruit, and free-flowing prosecco and champagne. The breakfast program also includes à la carte dishes ranging from classic eggs Benedict to Gio’s signature bruschetta, with poached eggs, avocado cream and the freshest cherry tomatoes.
Favorite features: The terraces, with views of the Grand Canal. Alfresco dining is especially popular in Venice, and it’s a must on a nice day at The St. Regis Venice. The restaurant has a large terrace, as do the bars, with plenty of tables offering a front-row view of the Grand Canal.
Can’t stop thinking about: The cinematic arrival; the hotel’s front entrance can be accessed only by boat, with most guests arriving by water taxi. Every return includes a dramatic approach down the Grand Canal, as the hotel’s Europa and Regina buildings come into view.
The Vibe
What are you packing? Venice has four distinct seasons, so it’s essential to check the forecast. But regardless of when you visit, expect a well-dressed crowd, and while there’s hardly a formal dress code, this is the time to dress to impress.
What are people drinking? Said to be invented in Venice, the spritz is a perennial favorite, made with sparkling wine. The St. Regis Venice serves three takes on the classic, including the Red Spritz, made with a liqueur that blends ingredients like rhubarb root and juniper berries.
Why you’re ordering room service: When the mezzi paccheri—a thick tube-shaped pasta served with blue lobster—is on the menu, order it with a side of fries. Save some of the dish’s rich bisque and use it as a dip.
The Perfect Stay
Rise and Shine
Use the Butler Service to get your tea or coffee just before sunrise, then leave the hotel on foot to meander through Piazza San Marco. Next, cross over the Rialto Bridge to the Rialto Market, before busloads of tourists take over the city.
Morning
As the streets begin to fill, make your way back to Gio’s for one of the city’s best hotel breakfasts, with plenty of prosciutto, cheeses, fruit and fresh juices, plus hot dishes from the à la carte menu (Gio’s aforementioned signature bruschetta is a can’t-miss).
Afternoon
You’re steps away from some of Venice’s most popular attractions. Book a gondola ride down the city’s canals or a private tour of the Doge’s Palace, then end your afternoon with a stop at the St. Regis Bar’s garden to enjoy a predinner cocktail along the Grand Canal.
Evening
Visit one of The Infatuation’s picks of the best restaurants in Venice, and cap off the evening with one of the hotel’s specialty cocktails at Arts Bar, where mixologists pour libations like the Canal Art, a nod to a famous street-art installation, made with mezcal—“a spirit with a very strong personality,” according to the menu—and artichokes from the Venetian island of Sant’Erasmo.
The St. Regis Venice is steps away from some of the city’s most popular attractions.
Know Before You Go
Getting There
You can fly nonstop from several U.S. cities to Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE), depending on the season. It’s a short walk from the water taxi stand in the terminal to the airport pier, where you’ll meet a private boat that can whisk you off to The St. Regis Venice dock in about 30 minutes. If you’re already in Europe, consider taking the train to Stazione Venezia Santa Lucia, where you can catch a water taxi directly to the hotel.
Tech Specs
You’ll find European outlets throughout the room (including by the bed). Ring the Butler Service if you need to borrow an adapter. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel, and fast enough to stream movies and join video calls.
When to Go
The warmer months of May to September are also the busiest, with tourists flocking to Venice from around the world. You’ll have the best weather, but you’re also more likely to encounter crowds and higher airfares and hotel rates. The shoulder months of April and October bring cooler temperatures and thinner crowds. The St. Regis Venice is open year-round.
What’s Included
Wi-Fi is included for all guests, along with boxed water in the room, luggage unpacking and repacking, coffee and tea delivery, and daily pressing of two items per person.
What’s Around
You’re in the heart of Venice—a five-minute walk from Piazza San Marco, the Doge’s Palace and Saint Mark’s Basilica. With most attractions in Venice just a few steps from the water, it’s easy to get anywhere by booking a water taxi, which can pick you up from The St. Regis Venice’s main dock.
