Stay Here For
Convenience, comfort, a serious spa program and more (seriously good) food and beverage options than you can shake a mun-kkochi at.
Hotels make the claim all the time, usually without the goods to back it up, but Four Seasons Hotel Seoul actually delivers: It’s easily one of the best places to stay in the South Korean capital, whatever your reason is for being here. Lodged in the heart of Gangbuk (the older, more storied side of the city, north of the Han River), it’s a short stroll from heavy hitters like Gwanghwamun Gate and Gyeongbokgung Palace, with easy access to a subway stop that’ll spirit you all around this massive city.
Turn your attention inside, though, and the offerings are equally expansive. Past the double-height lobby and polished black floors: a flower shop in partnership with Nicolai Bergmann, a patisserie to trump even the City of Light’s most-saved spots and a breakfast buffet that’s less Continental and more “elegant theme park for people with taste.” It’s a smorgasbord of American and Korean favorites, and—because this is Seoul, and Seoul doesn’t do “minimal”—it goes delightfully big on pastries and sweets, with made-to-order waffles and an almost theatrical abundance that makes you want to cancel your plans for just one more round.
It’s all of this, and a lot more, that makes Four Seasons Hotel Seoul the city’s best stay.

The Essentials
The Location

The hotel’s just a 10-minute walk from Gyeongbokgung Palace, among the country’s most important landmarks.
The hotel is in Gangbuk, the older, more historic side of the city, north of the Han River, with a clutch of star attractions close by. Walk about 10 minutes north and there’s Gwanghwamun Gate, the imposing entrance to Gyeongbokgung Palace (the first royal residence of the Joseon dynasty and arguably the most important palace in the country). Bukchon Hanok Village, a residential district known for its traditional, centuries-old Korean homes, is a 15-minute ride on the city’s easy-to-use bus system, or in the same time you can get to Insadong, a historic district known for its heritage craft shops and soup houses; a 20-minute subway ride will land you in Myeongdong, a warren of pedestrianized streets lined with Seoul’s most famous beauty shops and, come afternoon, a feast of food stalls. (Both the bus and subway stops are right across the street.)
The Bars and Restaurants
Despite being in one of the world’s best food cities, the hotel has a food and beverage program to rival that of the best cruise ship: so varied and delicious you won’t have regrets about dining in more than once.
In addition to The Market Kitchen, the sprawling food hall where guests congregate for breakfast, there’s also Yu Yuan, a Chinese-Cantonese spot with an old-Shanghai vibe; Boccalino, a chic spot helmed by a bona fide Italian chef with impressively authentic food; Akira Back, a double-height Japanese restaurant so good you’d swear you were in Tokyo (or, let’s face it, Los Angeles); Maru, the polished spot off the lobby with equally robust tea and cocktail offerings; and Charles H., another underground venue that takes the shape of a Prohibition-era cocktail bar. It’s hard to say what’s worth trying and what’s worth leaving behind—each venue has its charms, and all are equally delicious and well run.
The Room

Rooms are calm and cleanly designed, with regionally inspired touches throughout, including Korean silks and ceramics that nod to modern Korean patterns.
The guest rooms at Four Seasons Hotel Seoul feel like a master class in calm: spacious, plush but not ostentatious, and designed to make the city fade to a soft hum the moment the door shuts. The look is modern and tailored rather than showy—clean lines, thoughtful materials ranging from silks to ceramics, and lighting that actually flatters you—while comfort is the headline: a bed that banishes jet lag, blackout curtains that mean business and soundproofing that lets you forget you’re in the middle of Seoul. It’s the kind of room that turns a “just for 20 minutes” nap into a two-hour affair that culminates with a room-service order just because you can.
The Standout Feature
It’s a close call between the hotel’s food and beverage offerings and its spa—but the latter ultimately wins the day. The hotel’s wellness center sprawls across three stories of the building, comprising a Turkish hammam, an indoor pool overlooking the city, a nail salon, a gym and a clutch of treatment rooms, including a suite complete with a massive soaking tub that looks not unlike a halved dinosaur egg.
The Time to Go
There isn’t a bad time to visit Seoul—but the city, which sits at roughly the same latitude as Washington, D.C., is especially lovely during spring and autumn, when the temperatures are mild and the crowds, not too thick. If you decide on the latter, though, make sure to check the calendar: The harvesttime holiday of Chuseok, which is similar to American Thanksgiving, falls every year around late September or early October, and you can count on just about everything being closed the day of.
The Vibe

Start your night with a glass of bubbly at Charles H., the hotel’s Prohibition era–inspired drinking den.
The highly specific reason you’d come here: You’re excited to be in Seoul, and you want access to the best of everything—not only right outside your door, but inside your hotel, too.
What are people drinking? Virtually anything from Charles H., the subterranean, Prohibition era–style speakeasy where offerings stretch from the Spilled Milk (a creamy blend of Black Label soju, pyrolyzed banana, black sesame, coffee liqueur and banana cream) to the Queen of Diamonds, which mixes lemon gin with a range of citrusy liqueurs and bitters.
The perfect spot for your social media post: The massive, Jurassic-like tub in the couple’s suite at the spa—glasses of champagne included.
The souvenir from the gift shop you’re bringing home: A dried floral arrangement perfectly sized for your carry-on from Nicolai Bergmann’s on-site storefront. The hotel has a partnership with the florist to the stars, and you can drop into the shop during the day to watch staff compose tight little flower arrangements. Smells like you’ve pencil-dived into a jar of dried tea leaves.
The story you’ll tell everyone when you get home: You’ll gush over how you witnessed a low-key marriage proposal up at Yu Yuan, the old Shanghai-inspired spot that feels practically purpose-built for special occasions—no honking ring slid across the table, but rather, a gorgeous watch in a big red box—and how the staff was happy to honor your request, sending the couple a few glasses of champagne to celebrate.
