Known for its pivotal role in America’s founding and, more recently, cheesesteaks and intense sports fandom, Philadelphia will win you over with its grit and great food. It’s got excellent museums like the Barnes Foundation, historic sites like the Liberty Bell and charming neighborhoods like Rittenhouse Square. And it’s one of the top gastronomic destinations in the country, with everything from water ice and red-sauce joints to pho and fine dining.
Thankfully, the City of Brotherly Love also has plenty of exciting places to stay. Whether it’s a swish Center City skyscraper or a boutique property in Fishtown, the best hotels in Philadelphia put heritage front and center, giving visitors a taste of what makes Pennsylvania’s largest city so special.

Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia at Comcast Center
Center City

Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia at Comcast Center sets the standard for luxury in the City of Brotherly Love. Occupying the top floors of the Comcast Center—the tallest building in town—it’s a place of sky-high expectations, soaring views and a high-profile clientele. After riding the glass elevator up to the 60th floor, guests are greeted by stunning floral arrangements, floor-to-ceiling windows that look out over the skyline and a Jean-Georges Vongerichten restaurant. The spa (which is, without a doubt, the best in the city) has crystal-infused facials and an infinity pool, and guest rooms are equipped with upscale comforts, from cloudlike mattresses and oval soaking tubs to, you guessed it, panoramic views.

The Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia

In a historic city like Philadelphia, virtually everything is on its second or third act—and The Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia is no exception. Housed in a 1908 neoclassical bank on Broad Street, it draws inspiration from another significant building: Rome’s Pantheon, with a stately lobby featuring soaring white columns, a 140-foot domed ceiling and the original tellers’ desks. Also on property are 301 contemporary rooms and suites (certain categories come with access to the exclusive 30th-floor Club Lounge), plus a swank spa and an acclaimed Latin American restaurant, Aqimero.

The Rittenhouse

For a stay that never fails to impress, look no further than The Rittenhouse. Situated on the west side of Rittenhouse Square, one of the city’s original and most emblematic public parks, the high-end hotel, like its leafy landmark of a neighbor, is a Center City fixture with a sterling reputation. The spacious, recently renovated rooms and suites have plush furnishings, marble bathrooms with tubs and green views (a rarity in urban Philadelphia). There’s also a spa, indoor pool, gym and Scarpetta restaurant for sophisticated Italian fare like hamachi crudo and rigatoni bolognese.

The Logan
Logan Square
Located just off the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, within walking distance of the Philadelphia Art Museum and the Rodin Museum, The Logan attracts business and leisure travelers (and many, many wedding guests)—all for good reason. Its large footprint and inviting interiors make it the ideal place for a gathering: The living room–esque lobby, filled with local art, is an inviting space to wait for your room to be ready or sip coffee ahead of a big day of sightseeing or celebrating. Afterward, grab a drink at the rooftop bar or sneak away to the underground spa for a deep-tissue massage.

The Notary Hotel, Philadelphia, Autograph Collection
Center City
What’s in a name? When it’s The Notary Hotel, a lot. The property sits inside the old City Hall Annex, a Classical Revival–style building from 1926. Back then, it was home to notaries stamping marriage licenses and business certificates—a legacy the Center City landmark now honors with 1920s decor. The hotel is far from stuck in the past, however: Rooms are smart, with comfortable furnishings and just a hint of vintage flair. And the central location means easy access to popular attractions such as Reading Terminal Market and JFK Plaza (LOVE Park).

Anna & Bel
Fishtown
Often compared to Brooklyn for its gritty but lively vibe, Fishtown got another dose of cool when Anna & Bel opened in 2024. Inhabiting what was once a boardinghouse for single women dating back to the 1760s, the reimagined retreat integrates past and present seamlessly. The original staircase stands alongside checkered floor tiles and an impressive collection of works by female artists, while the superb restaurant, Bastia, and bar, Caletta, bring Mediterranean flavors to Philadelphia. There’s even a courtyard pool for sips and dips in the summer.

Wm. Mulherin’s Sons Hotel
Fishtown
Sometimes you want a full-service hotel with all the bells and whistles. Other times, it’s about a comfortable and convenient crash pad that doesn’t skimp on charm. Nestled in a building constructed in 1890, Wm. Mulherin’s Sons Hotel fits the bill with four rooms above a beloved Italian restaurant in Fishtown. After gorging yourself on crispy octopus, wood-fired pizza and dry-aged rib eye, you can roll upstairs and collapse in your comfy, king-size bed amid exposed brick walls, polished concrete floors and walnut furnishings. But because of the limited inventory, it’s best to book this dine-and-doze plan far in advance.

Guild House Hotel
Midtown Village
Guild House Hotel is tucked inside a refurbished row home dating back to 1851 that was once the headquarters of The New Century Guild, one of the oldest and most influential support organizations for working women in the country. Today, the property is focused on a different type of service, offering guests 12 residential-style rooms and suites, named for progressive feminist figures and filled with historic details like intricate moldings, original fireplaces, soaking tubs and vintage portraits. While Guild House Hotel differs from more traditional hotels in its “invisible service” approach, you’ll hardly miss a reception desk or in-house restaurant when you have privacy and polished accommodations.
