For a small city in the California desert, Palm Springs has an abundance of great hotels. The chic escape, known for its nearly year-round sunshine, mountain views and midcentury-modern architecture, has everything from design-forward boutiques to big-name properties, making it hard to pick a place to stay. Start with the major decisions: Are you looking for a kid-friendly spot or adults only? Funky or classic design? Sleepy retreat or party central? Once you’ve narrowed things down, choose from our 10 favorites below.

      Parker Palm Springs

Parker Palm Springs is a must-see when you’re in town, whether you’re spending the night in one of the private villas or just dropping in for a cocktail at Mister Parker’s or brunch at the alfresco, see-and-be-seen Norma’s. Jonathan Adler’s whimsical design is ever-present at this singular stay, which, in addition to the several drinking and dining options, encompasses labyrinthine gardens full of bougainvillea and all kinds of desert vegetation. Take time for a game of pétanque with a pastis, or perhaps a round of English croquet followed by a lemon-lavender margarita at the Lemonade Stand for a quintessential Palm Springs day.

      Thompson Palm Springs
      Downtown

Since opening on Palm Canyon Drive in late 2024, Thompson Palm Springs has firmly established itself as the downtown hangout. Days here center around the pool, which commands great views of the strip, while evenings kick off with cocktails and shared plates at the eastern Mediterranean–focused Lola Rose Grand Mezze. From there, downtown Palm Springs is your caviar-topped oyster. When it’s time to crash, the hotel has 168 rooms, many with spacious private balconies. If you’re 21 or over, opt for a room in the Upper Stories section, which offers guests of legal drinking age access to separate rooms and a pool, plus a bottle of wine on arrival and a 24/7 pantry stocked with goodies.

      Drift Palm Springs
      Downtown

Many of the best Palm Springs hotels are refurbished classics, adding a contemporary twist to midcentury-modern design. But not so at Drift Palm Springs, a sprawling new build with angular white buildings and a minimalist feel inside and out. Rooms and communal spaces are bigger than usual for the area, especially the one- to four-bedroom apartment-style suites, equipped with full kitchens and modern appliances—they’re perfect for a large family or multi-gen getaway. Outdoors, local flora abounds, with succulents, cacti and palms throughout, and everything is centered around the pool, naturally.

      Holiday House
      Historic Tennis Club

At Holiday House, art reigns supreme. The impressive collection is allowed to shine thanks to the hotel’s otherwise subtle design, which focuses on blue tones and simple but beautiful tile work. The 28 rooms fall into various categories, including Good, Better and Best, but all have comfortable beds and eye-catching artwork, and some come with private patios and outdoor showers. When hunger strikes, head to The Pantry, a palm-fringed outdoor spot for lunch and dinner (and brunch on weekends). Once a month, the restaurant even serves a family-style fried chicken dinner under the stars to just 40 lucky guests.

      Korakia Pensione
      Historic Tennis Club

The Mediterranean meets Morocco at this peaceful spot, tucked away in a prime part of central Palm Springs. Originally conceived as an artists retreat by painter Gordon Coutts in the 1920s, it’s since expanded to 28 accommodations (including stand-alone villas) set among lush gardens, pools and fountains. Each is individually designed—think: high wood-beamed ceilings, whitewashed walls, and bespoke furniture and artwork. Coffee is delivered to your room every morning, and Moroccan tea is served in the afternoon. While away the hours in between with yoga, a stroll around the historic grounds or a spirited game of bocce ball.

      Casa Cody
      Historic Tennis Club

Palm Springs isn’t short on historic hotels, but Casa Cody is one of the most fascinating. The oldest continuously operating lodging in the city, it was founded in the 1920s by Buffalo Bill’s cousin Harriet Cody, after she traveled by wagon from Hollywood to Palm Springs. Today, the property leans Spanish Colonial Revival in style, with rooms that mix original design details and modern amenities. Two standout accommodations include Winter’s House, a 1930s ranch home with a wood-burning fireplace that sleeps two, and Adobe House, a structure dating to the early 1900s that sleeps six and has a wine cellar.

      Sparrows Lodge
      Deepwell Estates

While many Palm Springs hotels trade on midcentury-modern charm, Sparrows Lodge does things a little differently. Here, rustic chic rules. It’s evident as soon as you pull up to the hand-painted road sign and check in at the bar, which sits in a renovated barn. The farmhouse theme runs throughout, from the bathtubs (probably the only ones in the desert fashioned from horse troughs) to the vegetable garden, tented massage space and menu at the renowned Barn Kitchen restaurant, which highlights produce from the Coachella Valley. But the 20 rooms are still comfortably furnished, with Italian linens, rain showers and quality bath amenities.

      ARRIVE Palm Springs
      Uptown Design District

ARRIVE Palm Springs was an adults-only favorite even before it was acquired and upgraded by boutique hotel group Palisociety in 2021. Now, the 32-room resort is renowned for its social scene, which centers on the firepits, heated pool and Palm Canyon Swim & Social restaurant, where guests enjoy avocado toast, smash burgers and frosty cocktails all day long. There are a bunch of alliterative weekly happenings, too, including Martini Mondays, Tropical Tuesdays and Bottomless Bubbles Brunch on weekends. In between, be sure to grab an ice cream made from Coachella Valley dates at the in-house parlor.

      Les Cactus
      Warm Sands

Playful design and thoughtful amenities combine at this boutique stay just a few minutes from downtown Palm Springs. Accommodations range from the appropriately snug Petite and the Cozy to the larger Le Suite, which features a living room, kitchenette and separate queen-sized bedroom. There are just 27 rooms in total, and the hotel (which dates to the 1930s) has an adults-only policy, so it never feels too raucous. Outside, guests have access to all the elements of a perfect Palm Springs afternoon: a hammock garden, a firepit, cocktail service and a saltwater pool and hot tub.

      Azure Sky
      Tahquitz River Estates

If you’re looking for some quiet time as a solo traveler or couple, this adults-only, 14-room hotel in South Palm Springs offers serenity in spades. Eleven of the rooms feature private patios equipped with a hammock (for gazing at that reliably azure sky), and the grassy courtyard has a firepit if you end up feeling social. There’s no restaurant, but continental breakfasts are delivered to guests, perhaps to be enjoyed in their built-in beds crafted from light wood. From 5 to 6 p.m. daily, when the sun sinks behind the San Jacinto Mountains and Palm Springs enters its beautiful gloaming phase, the hotel serves a complimentary Azurita cocktail (essentially a house margarita) by the pool. Desert life doesn’t get much better.
