Unclaimed money, funds or property?
We’re here to help you claim it.
What is unclaimed property?
Unclaimed or abandoned property refers to accounts in financial institutions (banks, credit unions, etc.) that have been inactive for one year or longer. If the rightful owner fails to collect the money, funds or property in those accounts, it’s turned over or “escheated” to the state of the owner’s last known address. By law, the money is then held by the state until the owner is found.
Unclaimed money can come from many places, including:
- Savings accounts
- Checking accounts
- Stocks
- CDs
- Safe Deposit Box contents
- Trust distributions
- Uncashed Money Orders or Cashier’s checks
- Credit balances
- Customer deposits
- Overpayments
