- The insurance covers accidental death and dismemberment during travel.
- Travel Accident Insurance is one of several benefits that are complimentary to cardmembers.
When considering travel rewards credit cards, travelers often focus on the rewards, but credit cards sometimes offer travel and purchase protections as a complimentary cardmember benefit. Chase Sapphire Reserve® comes with several built-in benefits around travel insurance, including Travel Accident Insurance.
Let’s unpack how to get the most out of your Travel Accident Insurance benefit.
What is Chase Sapphire Reserve’s Travel Accident Insurance?
If you have a Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card, you get Travel Accident Insurance as part of a suite of cardmember benefits. The insurance provides accidental death and dismemberment coverage for up to $1,000,000.
This coverage offers financial protection in the event of death or injury during travel. You may find that Travel Accident Insurance gives you peace of mind when you’re on a trip.
Please note that Chase Sapphire Reserve’s Travel Accident Insurance refers only to accidental death and dismemberment coverage, not emergency medical coverage. Cardmembers can potentially get reimbursed for emergency care during travel through a separate Emergency Medical and Dental Benefit.
How to use your Travel Accident Insurance benefit
Before you use your Travel Accident Insurance benefit, it may be helpful to know how travel insurance works on a credit card. You don’t need to sign up to activate the travel protections that come with your Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card. Simply pay for your ticket to travel by air, cruise, train or bus with your credit card or rewards, and the Travel Accident Insurance will activate.
Your immediate family members are also eligible when you pay for their tickets with your credit card, rewards points or miles.
See below for details on how to file a claim if you find yourself in need of this benefit.
