Get to know Chase Pay Over Time®

FAQs about using Pay Over Time at checkout on Amazon.com

Chase Pay Over Time is a feature available on participating Chase credit cards that allows you to pay for eligible purchases over time in equal monthly payments.

With Chase Pay Over Time at checkout, eligible Chase credit cardmembers with participating Chase credit cards in their Amazon wallet may have the option to create a payment plan with a fixed annual percentage rate (APR), that's the same or lower than your standard variable purchase APR, at checkout on Amazon.com.

Chase Pay Over Time at checkout is rolling out in phases and is currently only available on Amazon.com for select Chase cardholders. When available, you'll see the “Chase Pay Over Time” option during checkout on Amazon.com. Small business cards, Amazon cobrand cards and Chase Mastercards are not eligible.

Keep in mind: Even though you may have a participating card, access to Chase Pay Over Time is not guaranteed. Your ability to create a Chase Pay Over Time plan is based on a variety of factors, such as creditworthiness, credit limit and account behavior, and may change from time to time. Email marketing doesn't guarantee eligibility for Chase Pay Over Time due to eligibility being contingent on your account activity. You should continue to check back as accounts are periodically reviewed for eligibility. Only the primary cardmember can create a Pay Over Time plan.

You can only set up a Chase Pay Over Time payment plan at checkout by using your eligible Chase credit card. Make sure you:

  • Add your participating Chase credit cards to your Amazon wallet.
  • Add eligible item(s) totaling at least $50.00 to your cart.
  • Choose your plan duration and pay for your purchase over time.

Your Chase Pay Over Time plan options may vary based on the total purchase amount, the duration you choose to pay the balance in full and other factors.

Orders totaling $50 or more in US dollars made using your participating Chase credit card at Amazon.com are eligible for Chase Pay Over Time. Amazon may designate any item as ineligible for Chase Pay Over Time. Examples of orders ineligible for Chase Pay Over Time include, but are not limited to: Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods, Amazon Prime Now, 1-Click Purchases and Subscribe & Save (if your order includes a recurring subscription, then only the first month’s subscription fee will be eligible).

If a lower APR applies to purchases on your Chase card at the time your payment plan is created, that lower APR will apply to all items in your order processed as a payment plan until the end of your plan duration. For example, if you are currently receiving interest rate benefits under the Servicemember Civil Relief Act (SCRA) or similar law, your SCRA interest rate will apply to your payment plan for the plan's duration. Similarly, if you are currently in an introductory or promotional rate period with a lower purchase APR than the fixed APR being offered for a payment plan, the lower introductory or promotional purchase APR will apply to your payment plan for the plan's duration.

Using a Chase Pay Over Time plan will not affect your rewards. If you currently earn rewards on purchases with your Chase credit card, you will continue to earn those rewards on Amazon purchases financed with a Chase Pay Over Time plan.

Reasons for not seeing this option during checkout may include:

  • You’re not using a participating Chase credit card. Small business cards, Amazon Visa, Prime Visa, and Chase Mastercards aren’t eligible at this time.
  • You exceeded more than 10 active plans at a time.
  • Your order includes ineligible items or your total order is below $50.00.
  • You haven't added your participating Chase credit card to your Amazon wallet.
  • You're not logged into your Amazon account.

If none of these reasons are applicable and you still don't see the Chase Pay Over Time plan(s), it may not be available for your account right now. Chase continually evaluates accounts for eligibility, so check back later for any updates.

Once your order ships, your card will be charged the full purchase amount, including any shipping and handling costs, plus applicable taxes. However, only your monthly payment amount will be added to your credit card's minimum payment due each month. The actual monthly payment amount could differ from what is estimated at time of checkout.

Your plan's APR will be a fixed rate that's the same or lower than your standard variable purchase APR, or your introductory or promotional purchase APR if applicable rate, within a promotional lower rate offering.

Keep in mind: If you're in an introductory promotional period, your plan's rate will match the lower APR.

No, you can only set up plans for Amazon purchases during checkout.

Yes, eligible orders can be paid for with Chase Ultimate Rewards points and Amazon gift card(s) or any combination of the two. If you choose to do so, your card will be charged the remaining balance at checkout, and your Chase Pay Over Time plan will reflect this amount.

Sign into your credit card account on chase.com or the Chase Mobile® app and navigate to the Chase Pay Over Time dashboard to access your plan status (e.g., Active, Pending, Completed). You can also track the status on your credit card monthly billing statements or through any emails you receive from Chase about your Chase Pay Over Time plans.

To see which specific transactions on Amazon are included in your Chase Pay Over Time plan, you can either go to your account activity and look for “See plan details” next to the applicable transaction(s) or choose a Chase Pay Over Time plan from the dashboard to see transaction details.

Please note: Sometimes Chase may be unable to process a Chase Pay Over Time plan, and in that case, if your purchase is still authorized, it’ll be charged as a regular purchase to your Chase credit card and you’ll be responsible for payment as you normally would.

Yes, purchases using a Chase Pay Over Time plan are subject to a fixed APR that will remain the same until the plan balance is paid in full.

However, if you don't pay at least your card account’s minimum payment due by its due date, your Chase Pay Over Time plan will remain active, but you may be charged a late fee and will continue to incur interest every month until the balance is paid in full. Please review your Cardmember Agreement for information about late fees.

No. However, you do have the option to pay it off early without penalty by paying your statement balance in full.

Your Chase Pay Over Time plans may be separated or combined in the following ways:

  • If you place one order, but it includes multiple items that were shipped during different billing cycles, they may be added to separate plans.
  • If you place multiple orders during the same billing cycle and they have the same terms (APR and payment duration), they may be combined into a single plan.

No. The Chase Pay Over Time plan amount will be added to your credit card's minimum payment due each month. Pay at least your minimum payment when it’s due, and you’ll pay off your plan balance on time.

Yes, you can set up automatic payments at chase.com or in the Chase Mobile® app.

  • If you choose the “Statement balance” option while you have an active plan on your account, it will pay off your entire plan amount earlier than intended.
  • If you choose the “Interest saving balance” option, you won't pay off your entire plan balance earlier than intended, and you'll still avoid interest on new purchases.
  • If you choose the “Minimum payment due” option, it'll include the monthly plan payment for your plan.
  • If you choose the "Fixed amount" option, you might need to adjust the amount to cover your minimum payment due, which now includes the monthly plan payment.

Note that if you already have your automatic payments set at “Statement balance” at the time you choose your Chase Pay Over Time plan at checkout on Amazon.com, Chase will update your payment setting to "Interest saving balance," so you don't pay off your plan amount earlier than intended.

Keep in mind: If you place multiple orders during the same billing cycle with the same plan terms (APR and payment duration), your automatic payment setting may only be updated with the first order.

Refund Process on Amazon

To initiate a refund, follow Amazon's standard return process for your purchase.

Credit Applied to Chase Pay Over Time plan:

When Chase receives the credit, typically the refund amount will be applied directly to your plan balance. This means your plan balance and monthly payment will be reduced.

  • If a partial refund is issued, we'll adjust your monthly payment, and your plan will continue for the duration selected at time of checkout. Continue to pay your adjusted monthly payment each month for the remaining plan duration.
  • If the credit is more than the remaining plan balance, the excess amount will be used to pay down other balance(s) on your account. If there are no other balances, the credit will remain on your account until offset by new transactions or paid to you in accordance with the Cardmember Agreement.

If you have a question about your order, including order status, shipping, or how to make a return, please contact Amazon through your Amazon account.
