From an external investment account
Requirements:
- To transfer online, you need:
- Your username and password for the account you are transferring from
- A copy of your external account statement dated within the last 90 days.
- Transfer requests that exceed account balance minimums may be rejected by your external firm. Please check with your external firm about these limits before initiating a request.
- You can only make transfers between accounts of the same type that have the same owner. For example, John Smith’s Traditional IRA to John Smith’s Traditional IRA.
- If you have a check issued by another financial institution using funds from your IRA, you can use Chase QuickDeposit℠ in the Chase Mobile® app and choose the "Direct Transfer" option.
Timeline:
- Online transfers from external investment accounts typically take 3 to 5 business days. Transfers that require additional information or are paper-based may take 20 business days or longer. You can track your incoming transfer at any time on the Securities transfer activity page.
Things to consider:
- We support online transfers for the following account types: Individual, Roth IRA, Traditional IRA, Beneficiary IRA, Trust, Joint (with Rights of Survivorship only) and UTMA.
- For all other account types—including joint accounts—print, sign and mail a completed Account Transfer Form (PDF), with an account statement from the external firm dated within the last 90 days.
Between J.P. Morgan investment accounts
Requirements:
- You’ll need at least two eligible J.P. Morgan investment accounts to initiate an internal securities transfer.
- You can only make transfers between IRAs of the same type that have the same owner.
Timeline
- Internal investment account transfers are typically completed in less than 1 business day.
Things to consider
- Some accounts are not eligible for online transfers. For these accounts, please complete a Transfer Between JPMS Investment Accounts (PDF) form—do not use this form to request a transfer between retirement and taxable accounts.

It typically takes 3 to 5 business days to complete transfers between ACAT-eligible institutions. For non-ACAT institutions, transfers can take 7 to 20 business days once all paperwork is received. We'll notify you by email about the status of your transfer changes.
Note: The ACAT (Automated Customer Account Transfer) service is a system that facilitates the transfer of securities from one investment account at a financial institution to another financial institution.
Typically, digital transfers of investments from a J.P. Morgan or external investment account to another investment account are considered non-taxable events and do not have tax implications. However, certain exceptions may apply, such as transfers between different account types (e.g., IRA to a taxable brokerage account), or if specific assets (like some mutual funds, fractional shares, or non-publicly traded securities) cannot be transferred in-kind and must be sold.
For more details, please review the information provided during the transfer process or consult your tax advisor.
