Desk/5000 – Process a pre-auth

You can place a hold on a customer’s card to obtain prior approval before completing the transaction. Learn how to process a pre-auth.

Note: Your device may be a different color but all instructions apply

 

Process a pre-auth

  1. From the Home Screen with the Chase logo, press the green [Enter] key to access the Main Menu.
  2. From the Main Menu, navigate through the touchscreen menu by swiping up then press the Pre-Auth icon.
  3. Press 1 for Pre-Auth or the green [Enter] key to continue.
  4. Key in the sale amount and press the green [Enter] key.
  5. Customer can tap, insert, swipe or key-in their card. If chip card is used, leave inserted until instructed to remove.
    • For manual transactions, enter client's full card number, expiration date and CVV. If CVV is not entered, select [3-Bypass] then the green [Enter] key.
  6. Terminal will validate card and may prompt to enter PIN, if needed.
  7. Terminal connects to host. Displays the approval and prints receipt.
  8. Terminal will prompt "Customer Copy?", select [1-No] then press the green [Enter] key if no customer copy needed.
