JPMorgan Chase Settles Mortgage Servicing Issues With Government Agencies

JPMorgan Chase and four other mortgage servicers have agreed to settle mortgage servicing issues with the states and federal government.

As part of the settlement, certain mortgages are eligible for refinance, modification, short sale or other programs to help customers facing mortgage payment hardship.

We believe the settlement programs will supplement existing loan refinances, modifications and other alternatives to foreclosure programs that will help keep customers in their homes, forestall foreclosures and stabilize communities around the country.

A number of options may be available to you.
  1. If you are struggling to make mortgage payments or have missed payments: Find out if you are eligible for a modification or other alternative to foreclosure by completing and sending in a Homeowner Information Packet (PDF). We'll contact you after we've reviewed your information.
  2. If you are current on your payments and interested in refinancing your loan: Although we have mailed a letter to all customers eligible through the mortgage servicing settlement, you can still apply for another type of refinance.
  3. If you had a foreclosure between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2011: You already received a notice and claim form around the end of September 2012 from the National Mortgage Settlement Administrator. To be eligible, your mortgage loan needs to have been serviced by one of the five mortgage servicers included in the settlement.

If you received a notice and claim form from the National Mortgage Settlement Administrator, return your completed form no later than January 18, 2013. The National Mortgage Settlement Administrator will distribute all payments to homeowners who quality for a settlement. If you have questions or need help completing the claim form, you can visit Opens third party site disclosure in a new window and Opens third party site disclosure in a new window or call 1-866-430-8358.
