Better Experiences for Fans: Sponsorships Bring Perks and Benefits

As more professional sports stadiums and arenas create more sophisticated ways to entertain those in the stands, the sponsors who support those venues are making their own efforts to upgrade the fan experience.

Following its US Open sponsorship and feature stories about Stanley Cup winners and the lessons learned by a former Knick, JPMorgan Chase is enhancing the experience for sports fans at Madison Square Garden.

“We want to open the season in a big way and thank our customers for choosing Chase," said Frank Nakano, senior vice president for sports and entertainment marketing at JPMorgan Chase. "We know people have a choice, and when at the Garden, we want fans to know Chase is there to better their experience."

As part of its Madison Square Garden partnership, Chase will offer half off food purchased at concessions, excluding alcohol, to anyone who purchases it with a Chase debit or credit card during the Rangers and Knicks home openers this season. This offer cannot be combined with any other offers.

At both home openers, an interactive FanCam run by MSG will take a 360 degree photo of the crowd. Fans will be directed to visit the team home page, where they will be asked to tag themselves in the photo and find the five hidden team logos in the image. Fans who find all five will be entered to win one of five prizes, including tickets to a future game and a team gift bag.

Chase will also give away team-branded gifts to all ticketed fans as they enter the event for the two home openers while supplies last.

“Our main goal at every event that we put on at Madison Square Garden is to make the experience for those in attendance as enjoyable as possible," said Ron Skotarczak, executive vice president of marketing partnerships for The Madison Square Garden Company. “With the help of Chase, we are able to go the extra mile for our fans."

Chase will provide additional fan benefits throughout the season, including these:

Food Discounts: Chase Visa cardholders will receive $5 off select items at concession stands serving food.

Spending Bonus: Any Chase cardholder who spends $75 on merchandise at a team store at the Garden using a Chase debit or credit card will receive a $25 gift card to any team store for a purchase during the rest of the regular season .

Chase Freedom Weekends: On Saturday and Sunday game days, fans who enter The Garden through the Chase Entrance at the corner of 8th Avenue and 31st Street and show their Chase credit or debit card will receive a $5 voucher good toward food purchased at concessions at any regular season game.

Chase Preferred Seating: Some of the best seats in the house are exclusively available for Chase cardholders to have the first chance to purchase them via Ticketmaster. Chase Preferred Seating is available across live entertainment and sporting events at Madison Square Garden and other MSG-owned venues in New York City.

Chase Lounge: At this invite-only VIP lounge within Madison Square Garden, open before select concert and sports events, loyal Chase customers will enjoy complimentary food, beverages and other features as part of a premium lounge experience. Guests may receive an invite when they purchase Chase Preferred Seats with a Chase credit or debit card. Purchasing a Chase Preferred Seat does not guarantee an invite to the Chase Lounge. Reservations are available for select events and are limited to a first-come, first-serve basis.

Chase Locker Room: Returning this season, at select games, the Chase Locker Room will give Knicks and Rangers fans at Madison Square Garden the chance to win great prizes. Chase customers will receive access to a special set of lockers where they can win VIP prize packages courtesy of Chase Sapphire Preferred®. Non-customers also have a chance to participate and win great prizes.

“Overall, our goal is to enhance the fan experience," said Amy Gaskin, vice president for sports and entertainment at JPMorgan Chase. "While we offer great benefits to our customers, we want all Knicks and Rangers fans to associate Chase with enabling them to experience their favorite teams in an elevated way."

Supporting Youth Sports

Outside the arena, Chase is in its fifth season of partnering with the Knicks and Rangers on youth community sports initiatives.

Knicks Basketball in the Boroughs presented by Chase is a community initiative to celebrate the game of basketball throughout the tri-state region. Rangers Assist is a community initiative led by Chase and the Rangers to involve more area kids in hockey. “The incredible work that Chase and Madison Square Garden do in the community is one of the most important aspects of our terrific partnership," said Janet Duch, senior vice president at MSG Sports.

Both programs include refurbishing neighborhood rinks and courts to making the sports more accessible for the community.

In addition, Rangers and Knicks players make appearances at local Chase branches throughout the season.
